Dirty Dirty!
If you want to keep your skin looking healthy and fresh the most important thing you can do is to keep it clean. Our skin is exposed to make-up, dirt, sweat, excess oil, and pollutants throughout the day. These things can contribute to breakouts, redness and irritation. They can also accentuate fine lines and wrinkles and make us look and feel older than we are.
How often should you wash your face? Well that is up for debate but the best answer I could find is to at least wash your face at the end of the day. You should also at least splash your face with water in the morning if you plan to apply moisturizer. Moisturizer locks in moisture to keep your skin looking and feeling hydrated. Washing your face with cleanser in the morning may just be a personal preference.
We should also be at least removing most face make-up before a workout and definitely washing after a workout. Sweating helps to transport the grime that has built up in our pores out onto our skin’s surface, which is a good thing. If we don’t remove that dirt then it can build up and cause breakouts, redness, irritation, etc.
My preference is to wash my face with a mild face cleanser every evening and morning. It just works for my skin. I am guilty of not cleansing my face before a workout but I definitely cleanse my face and the rest of my body post workout.
Everyone’s skin is unique and sometimes it takes experimenting to discover what works best for you.
